Iranian Specialists at Islamic Azad University Indigenize 60 Sanctioned Parts utilized in Iron, Steel Industries 

TEHRAN (ANA)- The Iranian experts at Islamic Azad University, Sirjan branch, managed to manufacture 60 parts and equipment used in iron and steel industries amid sanctions imposed against the country.

“Iron ore and steel as the most important industries in Kerman province in Southeastern Iran have been affected by sanctions over the past years. It was not possible to supply the required parts for these industries due to the sanctions and therefore, this academic unit decided to indigenize and manufacture 20 special parts and more than 60 kinds of sanctioned parts and equipment needed in Gol Gohar region,” Amir Reza Bazargan, the head of the innovation department of steel supply chain and dependent industries of Islamic Azad University’s Sirjan branch, told ANA.

He added that 30 technological units are active under the supervision of the department.

“The department enjoys highly proper relations with the companies in the region and the big iron core and steel producing companies, including Gol Gohar and Gohar Zamin as well as the Iron and Steel Development, Nazmavaran, Jahad Nasr, Gohar Hamkar and Gohar Ravesh companies,” Bazargan said.

Iranian steelmakers registered growth in production during the first four months of the current fiscal year (March 21-July 22, 2022) compared with last year’s corresponding period.

According to the Iranian Steel Producers Association, the output of semi-finished products stood at 10.59 million tons during the period, 11 precent more than in the corresponding period of last year.

Production of billet and bloom stood at an aggregate 6.29 million tons, registering a 9% year-on-year rise while that of slab reached 4.3 million tons to mark a 13% YOY rise.

The output of finished steel increased by 15% to 7.43 million tons during the period.
